APA 7th Citation Guide

A guide on APA Style 7th edition, derived from the APA Style Manual

General guidelines for citing unpublished manuscripts

An unpublished manuscript is a text that has not yet been published. Examples include a paper you want to submit to a journal or a chapter for a book.
General Guidelines
  • Ensure your punctuation is correct
    • Manuscript title: Write the title of the manuscript in italics and in sentence case.
    • Department and Institution: In regular font and in title case.
  • Institution location
    • Provide the full name of the institution. If the institution is located in multiple cities, hyphenate the university with an en dash (a medium-sized dash) and the city.
      • e.g. Augusta University
      • e.g. California State University–Fullerton.
  • Ensure your formatting is correct
    • Follow our red format structure and view our examples in black. E.g. For the elements of the reference we have italicized, you also italicize that same element in your reference.
