APA 7th Citation Guide

General Guidelines

• Author Element

  Who you put as the author depends on where you found the TED Talk. If you found it on:
  • TED website: Put the TED speaker as the personal author.
  • YouTube: List the owner of the YouTube channel as the group author to aid in retrieval. 

• Date Element

  • Be as specific as possible, up to the date of publication, i.e., (Year, Month Day).

• Title Element

  • Video title: Write the video's title in italics and sentence case. Include [Video] before the period.​

• Source Element

  • Video platform title: Write the video platform title in regular font and how you see it displayed, but start it with a capital letter, e.g., YouTube; Vimeo.
  • URL: Include the direct link to the video. If you found it on YouTube, use the Share button to generate a stable URL.

• Citing a quotation from a TED Talk

  • To cite a quotation from a video in text, include the time-stamp of the beginning of the quotation. For example: (Cuddy, 2012, 2:12).
