General Guidelines

• Most of the time, cite the group author

  • If you find press releases on an organization's website without a specific personal author attribution, assume the organization to be the author and cite the group author.
  • Government agency group author: When several layers of government agencies are listed as the author, use the most specific agency as the author in the reference, e.g. use National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, not U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

• Case and emphasis

  • Press Release title: Write the title of the press release in sentence case and in italics
  • Type of Release: Write the type of release in regular font, in square brackets, and in title case, e.g. [Press Release].

• Ensure your formatting is correct
  • Follow our red format structure and view our examples in black. E.g., Look at the elements of the reference we have italicized. You also italicize that same element in your reference.

• Source information

  • Insert the stable URL to the article - not to the library database link - after the press release title: Format it how you would for an eNewspaper article.
