General guidelines for citing Code of Ethics documents

General Guidelines
  • Ensure your punctuation is correct
    • Code of ethics title: Write the title of the code of ethics document in sentence case.
    • Group author: Write the full name of the Group Author, e.g. American Nurses Association instead of ANA. 

  • Ensure your formatting is correct
    • ​Follow our red format structure and view our examples in black. E.g. For the elements of the reference we have italicized, you also italicize that same element in your reference.

  • Insert the stable URL to the document - not to the database link - after the Code of Ethics document:  Get tips for finding the URL from the eMagazine article page. 

Code of ethics - no amendment

Format

Group Author. (Year). Title of code of ethics in sentence case. http://xxxxx - the URL of the code of ethics document not the database link

Citing In-Text: Example of one of the references
First citation: (Georgia Professional Standards Commission [GaPSC], 2019)  OR Georgia Professional Standards Commission [GaPSC] (2019). 
Subsequent citations: GaPSC (2019) OR GaPSC (2019)

If only referencing it once, then omit the abbreviation.

Code of ethics - with amendments

Format

Group Author. (Year or latest amendment). Title of code of ethics in sentence case (original year, amended effective Month Day, Year, Month Day, Year, and Month Day, Year). http://xxxxx - the URL of the code of ethics not the database link

EndNote Reference Type

Augusta University provides free access to EndNote citation management tool students, faculty, and staff.

If you use EndNote to input your references, then choose the reference type underneath. If you export or import your citations, then check that EndNote automatically categorized them to the below reference type. Edit the reference type if it is incorrect.
