EndNote 20 for Windows

Step-by-step guidance on using the most popular functions of EndNote 20 on PC

Intro: Find Full Text

EndNote has a 'Find Full Text' feature which can access several sources and locate, download and attach full-text files to your references.

This page explains how to set up 'Find Full Text' preferences and how to use the 'Find Full Text' feature, so that you may be able to have EndNote retrieve the full text of an item and attach it to your reference.

Set up and use 'Find Full Text' feature

To set up 'Find Full Text' to work:

  1. On the top menu bar, select Edit > Preferences > Find Full Text

  2. Tick all of the checkboxes, including PubMed LinkOut

  3. Copy and paste the following URLs into their respective fields (see the image below):
    • OpenURL Path: http://galileo-usg-aug-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com
    • Authenticate with URL: https://ezproxy.augusta.edu/login

  1. Select Apply if you want to change more preferences. Otherwise, select Ok.

Your 'Find Full Text' preference should now look like this:

FAQ: Find Full Text isn't working for me

FAQ

Q. I tried running Find Full-text on a few references I know we have full-text access to, but it didn't work. Why?

A. Find Full-text works occasionally, but not always. Possible reasons why include:

  • Publisher's website does not support or allow this functionality.
  • Too many users are already in a database with limited access.
  • Journal handles letters, editorials, & other genres differently, making it difficult for EndNote to find the citation.
  • The article is buried in a large full-text database that does not allow individual articles to be easily retrieved.

If you have had a few failed attempts at using the Find Full-text on a particular reference, then add the article manually to the reference, i.e., download the PDF and attach it to the reference.
