This guide offers information regarding the Augusta University institutional repository, Scholarly Commons.

Creative Commons is a simple, standardized way to grant copyright permissions for your creative work.

If I contribute to Scholarly Commons will my record be licensed under Creative Commons?                                                                                                                                 No. Although Scholarly Commons is an open access repository, the Creative Commons license is at the discretion of the author or creator. 

Can I add a Creative Commons license to my item?                                                                                                                                                                                                           Yes. 

How can I add a Creative Commons license?                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Both our quick submission form and the manual submission process offers the option to include a Creative Commons with any level of freedom. 

Can I retract a Creative Commons license?                                                                                                                                                                                                                          No. Creative Commons license are permanent in Scholarly Commons. 

   

 

Attribution (CC BY)                                        

 

Must: Credit the original work

Allowances: distribute, remix, tweak, build upon work, even for commercial purposes​ 

  • This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. 
  • Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials.

   

Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA)              

 

Must: Credit the original work and license new creation under identical terms

Allowances: remix, tweak, build upon work, even for commercial purposes 

  • Recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly licensed projects 

    

Attribution-NoDerivs (CC BY-ND)                                                                  

Must: Credit the original work 

Allowances: reuse the work for any purpose, including for commercial purposes 

Not permitted: cannot be adapted or modified and shared with others

Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC)

 

Must: Credit the original work 

Allowances: remix, tweak, build upon the work 

Not permitted: re-use for commercial purposes
