Exercises in Knowledge Retrieval

  • NCBI cases and the information retrieval exercises were helpful in getting the hands on and applying different tools in answering questions.
  • Challenged my brain in ways it hasn't been challenged in decades. Thanks!
  • Great way to explore the resources! Some were pretty hard. :) I liked the format of giving the answers to one exercise halfway through and posting them for us to refer to later.

Dr. Olivier Bodenreider

Controlled Vocabularies

  • Great presentation that integrated librarian knowledge and patient care. I will be using a lot of what I learned here when I return to work.
  • I appreciated how he distilled the key points up front and built on them. I found I learned quite a lot of theory behind the terminologies and standards I currently use that I'll be able to apply when considering terms to apply, as well as evaluating data quality from standards-driven, encoded queries.

  • Dr. Warner took a long and dense topic and made it understandable and interesting. We still have a lot to learn and his presentation helped.

Dr. Rebecca Schnall

Consumer Informatics and Social Media

  • The lecture was interesting, and it presented a case study conducted at Columbia University. The speaker was engaging and addressed the strengths and limitations of the study.
  • I enjoyed Dr. Schnall's focus group research presentation and the time spent on user design.

Dr. Paul Harris

Data Management

  • Very engaging and stimulating discussion of the various items to consider when designing research studies as well as database construction and more.
  • Fantastic and engaging speaker! The activity was interesting and it was a great refresher of best practices. I do my own research so was nice to see that I'm doing things right (validation!) and got some ideas about what to teach grad students and faculty on this topic.
