Please contact the HCA Curator, Renee Sharrock at rsharrock@augusta.edu or 706-721-3444 before you plan to arrive in order to ensure assistance will be available.

Researcher Application Form

It is recommended to contact the staff before arrival so that your research needs are assessed.

Permission to examine materials is granted upon completion and signing of the Research Application Form (PDF) once each academic year (July 1- June 30).

Historical Collections and Archives Reading Room Procedures

Historical Collections is open to all researchers. The primary purpose of the Reading Room is to provide a study area for researchers and to securely house the books, manuscripts, and archival collections.

Before arriving at Greenblatt Library, researchers are advised to familiarize themselves with the below Reading Room Procedures, the Researcher Application (to the left), and our reproduction guidelines and fee structure.

  • Please wash hands before entering the Reading Room.

  • No food or drink is allowed into the room.

  • All briefcases, coats, purses, and other personal articles are to be placed in the lockers on the first floor or in the archivist's office.

  • Visitors are requested to sign the register once daily during each visit.

  • Use only pencils, not pens, when working with materials. Electronic equipment, e.g. tablets, digital cameras, may be used at the discretion of the Archivist.

  • Historical Collections and Archives materials may be used only in the reading room. Workrooms and storage areas are closed to the public.

  • The researcher is responsible for carefully handling materials to prevent any damage. Items that cause damage include paper clips, post-it notes, and rubber bands. Actions that cause damage include folding pages, laying books open face down, using bookmarks other than those provided, leaning on, writing on or tracing materials, and taking notes on top of materials. Materials must be kept on the surface of the table. Some of the materials may require the use of white gloves (which are provided).

  • Historical Collections and Archives staff reserves the right to inspect all research materials and personal items before a patron leaves the room.
