Elements of a PICOT Question

PICOT: A mnemonic device to help formulate a clinical question and search strategy by identifying key concepts.

Here is a useful PICOT Worksheet.

P Patient/Population/Problem Describe your patient or the problem - be specific
I Intervention/Indicator Treatment, cause, prognostic factor, etc.
C Comparison/Control Compared to another treatment or standard of care (optional)
O Outcome Improvement or negative effects?
T Time Timeframe for the question

How to Begin a Literature Search

Below are instructional videos on forming your PICO question and beginning a literature search. These were created by our College of Nursing Librarian, Natalee Reese, but the same principles apply to dental research!
