Type of Resource In the Classroom/Face-to-Face Instruction Online/Distance-Learning/D2L

Articles, including:

Journals

Newspapers

Magazines

Providing copies of articles is considered fair use if the number of articles is minimal (i.e. one or two).

Instructors: Please note that repeated use of the same copies of articles over several semesters could be considered a violation of copyright.

Providing the full text of an article online is a violation of copyright, unless the article is open access or published under an appropriate Creative Commons license.

Best Practices:

  • Use articles from journals that the University Libraries subscribes to or articles that are open access
  • If making and distributing copies, use a limited amount of articles at one time
  • If making and distributing copies, rotate use of articles over each semester

Best Practices:

  • Provide the permalink or the DOI link to the article (see below for how to find the permalink on articles from GALILEO)

  • Obtain permission from the copyright owner if providing full-text of the article online

Click on the article from the results page. The permalink is found on the right-hand side of the article's homepage.
