Finding Guidelines in Databases

  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text
    • Steps to search for practice guidelines:
      • Type the topic (such as a condition, symptom, or clinical procedure) in the search box on the Advanced Search page. If you already know the name of the guideline, do a title search.
      • Select "Practice Guidelines" from the "Publication Type" menu in the Advanced Search or Limits section.
  • PubMed
    • Steps to search for practice guidelines:
      • Type the topic (such as a condition, symptom, or clinical procedure) in the search box.
      • Click on the "Limits" tab and check the box next to "Practice Guideline" under the section labeled "Type of Article."
  • TRIP
    • Steps to search for practice guidelines:
      • Type the topic in the search box.
      • On the results page, click "Guidelines" under the "Evidence Type" filter.

  • UpToDate
    • Steps to search for practice guidelines:
      • Type the topic in the search box.
      • On the results page, click "Guidelines" under the "Topic Outline."

Use the Advanced Search Page and select "Practice Guidelines" under Publication Type.

Search for the topic in the search box, then click "Guidelines" under the "Evidence Type" filter and select USA. 

Search for a topic of interest and select "Society Guideline Links" in the Topic Outline on the results page.
