FAIR Data

Data should be FAIR:

Findable - through metadata (information about the data such as when it was created and by whom) and through a persistent identifier (e.g. DOI)

Accessible - easily retrievable through open platforms (i.e. data repositories), for example

Interoperable - able to be used in applications for analysis, storage, and processing

Reusable - published with permissions (e.g. Creative Commons licensing)

Research Data Management

Data management is the organization, storage, access, and preservation of research data.

  • How data gets from the creation stage to the analysis stage, and what happens to the data after the research ends, needs to be planned for and documented.

Planning for data management saves time and money by developing efficient workflows.
