Courtney Berge, our Special Collections Librarian, serves as an educational resource to Augusta University students, faculty, and Augusta community members. Contact her at cberge@augusta.edu to discuss ways she can help you or your students explore the primary sources available in the Special Collections & Institutional Archives.
Interested in introducing your students to the Archives, and the use of primary sources in their research? Schedule a class visit to Special Collections to learn about Reese Library's Special Collections & Institutional Archives (and archives in general), our collections, and how to handle, read, analyze, and write about primary sources. Due to current social distancing guidelines, we can only accommodate about 10 students at a time for a class in Special Collections. If interested in using the Reese Library instruction room on the first floor, please make sure students will be able to meet the social distancing requirements. Please contact archives@augusta.edu if you would like a in-class primary source "pop-up" visit.
If you or your class need to access specific materials or collections, let us help you navigate the finding aids, and pull relevant material in advance of your research visit to materials are ready for you when you arrive.
We are happy to provide tours for classes or community organizations. Please email archives@augusta.edu to arrange a visit.
Special Collections & Institutional Archives does archival outreach in a number of ways, including pop-up exhibits at University events, online exhibits, events, presentations and visiting researcher presentations. Do you want to know more about Special Collections, the history of the Summerville Campus, or selected local history topics? The Special Collections Librarian Assistant is glad to come to speak to small groups about topics of interest. Use email to discuss a visit.
Are you planning a research visit to Augusta and plan to use Special Collections materials in your research? Consider being a part of our new Visiting Researcher Presentation Series and giving a brief presentation on your research while you're here! Please email Maranda Christy to learn more.
Pop-up exhibits are small, temporary exhibits that can "pop-up" around campus! Previous Special Collections pop-up exhibits have been featured at Reese Library's Finals Frenzy, Augusta University Maxwell Theaters' production of "Here to Get my Baby Out of Jail" (the musical based on Louise Shiver's novel), and Augusta University's Women's and Gender Studies Symposium.
