Many museums, libraries, and other cultural heritage centers keep archives, sometimes with digital materials. You can search their holdings for specific archival material. NOTE: Much archival material is not digitized, so you may only see a description of the item.

The most extensive collection in African Studies is housed at the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies at Northwestern University. Accroding to their website, the "scope is as wide as the continent of Africa itself; its subject matter ranges from art, history, literature, music, science, technology and religion to communications, engineering, management and cooking." Visit the Herskovits Library's website for more information and to browse their collections.

Columbia University Libraries has compiled a list of significant African collections by location. Click the region for a link to the corresponding list.
