Started in 1982, Banned Books Week is a yearly event that celebrates the freedom to read and it brings together book lovers and providers of all types to emphasize how important it is to have free and open access to information. In all, it supports the freedom to express ideas and seek information, even if they are considered deviant and unconventional in certain circles (Banned Books Week).
