  Find a news story that reports on a medical study or health-related research.
  1. List the title of the article, date, author(s), and where you found it (Yahoo News, Augusta Chronicle, etc.). Be sure to include a link to the article (you'll need this next week!).
  2. What interested you about the headline that made you choose it?
  3. Read the article and summarize it in a few sentences: Tell us the "who, what, when, where, & why".
  4. Upload your document in the Assignment 1 space on our Teams channel by midnight on Wednesday June 12th.

1. Use PubMed to find the the study reported on in your health news article.
2. Include the study's article citation in APA format. You can use the citation within PubMed (start at the library's homepage) or create your own using the APA LibGuide (https://guides.augusta.edu/apa).
3. Answer the following questions in a few sentences: (Hint: Revisit the questions under #3 on page 3 of "How to read a research article" below to guide your response.): 

• Did the news article make it easy or difficult to find the actual study? Describe how you got to the full text of the study (not just the abstract/summary).
• What kind of study was it? What question were researchers they trying to answer, and what were their results (briefly)?
• Is the news report an accurate representation of the study? What did the news writer do well? What could be improved upon in their report?

PubMed is a search interface comprising citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.

CINHAL Plus with Full Text is the premier database for nursing and allied health, including nursing, biomedicine, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines.

–Presentations on 7/5

Prepare and deliver a 5 minute PowerPoint/slideshow presentation on an assigned genetic disease & recommended treatment(s).

•What is it? (brief definition/background/history)

•What causes it? (genetics/patho)

•Body system affected (effects/patho)

•Recommended treatment/s (poss. pharma) & prognosis

You must use three sources, formatted in APA 7th ed. style, cited on your final slide. Start with the SEEP LibGuide:

•1 textbook chapter/section

•1 journal article

•1 source of your choice – may include one credible website. Or you may choose another journal article or book section.

Session 5: July 5th

Congratulations on making it through the course! Your hard work has paid off! Today we will see how much you have learned from this course with a Post-Test. Then, you will present your 5 minute presentations to the class.
