Hopefully, by now, you have a decent list of potentially useful search results.
Review and save any potentially useful results.
Look for your keywords and key phrases in the search results. In GALILEO and in EBSCOhost databases, they appear in bold. In ProQuest databases, they are highlighted yellow. Are a combination of your search terms appearing in either the:
If they are, that is a good clue that the resource is helpful to your topic. Save it.
If you have found hardly any, don't just give up and change your topic...
Ask a Librarian first!
Changing your topic to something that is "easier to research" may seem like an easy fix for now, but as you progress in your coursework, most likely you will be more restricted in the choices you can make.
This video provides tips on selecting the best search results for your topic. The librarian demonstrates using Academic Search Complete database, but the tips are applicable to all databases.
In GALILEO and most databases, you can easily save your desired results to a temporary folder or list and then emailing them to yourself.
To save and email results in GALILEO and EBSCOhost databases:
Undertake a search in GALILEO or in any EBSCOhost database.
Add your desired records to a temporary folder, by selecting the light blue folder icon to the right of each desired record. The folder icon will turn yellow.
Go to the folder by selecting Folder on the top right-hand menu bar. You should see all your saved records.
Select your desired records - you could individually select records or select all. Select Email.
Input your desired email address.
Choose your citation format, eg. MLA or APA. (Warning: Citations generated may be inaccurate. Check the generated citation against the proper citation guidelines).
Select send: If the entire full-text is available in the database, it will be emailed to you. Otherwise, only the link to the record will be sent, and you will need to download the source separately.
Saving and emailing yourself results from other databases is similar. If you are unsure how to save and email results to yourself from a particular database, Ask a Librarian and someone will guide you through the process.
Most databases give you the option to permanently save your results while you are enrolled at your institution. This typically involves:
Any articles or other resources you save to your temporary folder will be saved into your permanent account instead.
You can even create different folders so you can organize your search results for different topics, classes, etc.
Below are links to instructions on how to create a free account in GALILEO/EBSCOhost database and ProQuest databases. You can create a MyEBSCOhost account from GALILEO or any EBSCOhost database and a My Research account in any ProQuest database.
