"Rosa T. Beard was a former chemistry teacher at T.W. Josey High School and was the founder of the Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club for Girls, which she ran from 1963 until 2009. In 1966 she was named Josey High School’s Teacher of the Year for her work advising a student Rocket Club. Club members built rockets that won awards in several science fairs, including one from the U.S. Patent Office. Members went on to pursue careers in science and government and became doctors, military officers, ministers, an ambassador, and a Superior Court judge.”
