OpenAthens for Remote Access

Authenticating from our "Athenized" Links

Newly-created links will be rolled out on the Libraries websites, in LIbGuides, LibAnswers, and everywhere else as we get closer to our go-live date at the end of spring semester..

These links should automatically direct users through the familiar campus login page:

Authenticating when browsing the web

If you are browsing online and happen to discover an item of interest, look for a login link on most publisher websites.  Some terms to look for include:

  • “Login through your institution”
  • "OpenAthens"
  • "Federated login"
  • or even just "Sign In"

Though the navigation will vary a bit on each individual platform, you will usually be asked to specify “Augusta University” and then login with your AU login and password.

Most users should IGNORE the OpenAthens individual account login on the left side of the screen.  These individual accounts are only used for special types of logins such as emeritus faculty.

Once you login

You will be asked to authenticate less often

An OpenAthens session stays active for up to 8 hours, unless you clear your browser cache and cookies. On some publisher websites, you may be asked to authenticate more often.
