Reese Library Special Collections: Augusta's Religious Institutions: Manuscript materials

 

The following is a list of manuscript collections held by Reese Library Special Collections, which are related to the history of religious institutions in Augusta, Georgia. These unpublished collections include many primary source materials. Primary sources are generally original documents created at the time being studied, whereas secondary sources (like books), were written later, and reflect upon a given time period or event.                                                                                                                                                                                              

 

ARCHS 065: Telfairville First Baptist Church records, 1883-1934

Materials include a book of minutes and documents relating to church governance. Of particular interest within the minutes book is the church statement of faith and the covenants.

 

ARCHS 074: Washington Baptist Association minutes, September 28, 29 & 30, 1987

One booklet, which contains minutes of the sixty-ninth anniversary of the Washington Baptist Association held with the Pleasant Grove Church, September 28, 29, and 30, 1897. Booklet contains list of attendees, standing order of business, meeting minutes and articles of faith

 

ARCHS 078: St. Paul's Episcopal Church Women of the Church Yearbooks, 1961-1976

Ten booklets divided among three functions: Women of the Church Yearbook, the Annual Parish Meeting, Episcopal Churchwomen, and the Diocese of Georgia Annual Meeting

 

ARCHS 097: Church of the Atonement records

This collection is comprised of two registers belonging to the Episcopal Church of the Atonement. These registers cover baptismal dates, confirmation dates, and marriages. The collections also includes a brochure for the 150th anniversary of the church.

Contains histories and other materials written or submitted by 31 individual churches. A variety of Protestant and Catholic churches and Jewish synagogues are represented.

MSS 345 Saint James Methodist Episcopal Church South directory, 1907

The collection contains a brief history of St. James church, photographs of the pastor, the head of the Augusta chapter,the Conference Bishop, as well as photographs of the members associated with committees. A directory of all church members is also included.
