Reese Library Special Collections: The Augusta Arsenal: Manuscript materials

 

The following is a list of manuscript collections held by Reese Library Special Collections, which are related to the history of the Arsenal. These unpublished collections include many primary source materials. Primary sources are generally original documents created at the time being studied, whereas secondary sources (like books), were written later, and reflect upon a given time period or event.                                                                                                                                                                                              

 

 

MSS 162: Augusta Arsenal records, April-July 1861

This collection includes payrolls, receipts, and inventory lists of the Augusta Arsenal from April- July of 1861.

MSS 248: Augusta Arsenal correspondence, 1828

Letter from G. Bomford Brevet Colonel, Ordinance Department Washington D.C. to Major A.C W. Fanning, Augusta Georgia. Requests Fanning submit abstracts of Articles fabricated, repaired, purchased and expended which were omitted from Fannings received first quarterly report of 1828.

Map shows plan of Augusta Arsenal in 1875 with scale.  Also includes inset of city map of Augusta and Summerville.  Map is number 4 in a series and is assumed to be a copy reproduction.

 

MSS 347: Harvey Reynolds papers, 1940-1967

This collection includes materials that belonged to Harvey Reynolds, a resident of Grovetown Georgia.  The material relates to his World War II service and his civilian service at the Augusta Arsenal. 

 

MSS 375: Burdishaw and Symns postcards, ca. 1890- ca. 1970
