Information Security History

RAND Report R-609-1 published June 1967 earmarked the transition from computer security to the more comprehensive field of information security.  Prior to this report, security issues focused on securing a computer in a single physical location.  With the advent of telecommunications and computer networking, security practices needed to expand to the boarder field of information security.

Mandiant (now FireEye) released APT1 report on February 18, 2013 exposing to the world the Chinese Government’s active computer espionage campaign that has cost the United States millions of dollars in lost revenue and competitive intelligence.  The APT1 Report was the first of its kind in the information security industry by not only exposing the Chinese Government but also by providing 3,000 threat indicators that could be directly used to help secure worldwide business and government networks.  A synopsis of the impact of the APT 1 report may be viewed below.
