Health Sciences Embedded Librarian Program

 

What is an Embedded Librarian?

An embedded librarian is a faculty member of the University Libraries formally designated as the primary advocate between the Libraries and an academic unit. This type of library service is a method of connecting with our professional colleges, staying in tune with their needs, providing continuity of contact, and keeping them informed. All embedded librarians are faculty librarians. 

The primary objectives of the program are to foster collegiality through consistent communication, provide leadership in collection development, promote excellence in reference and education services, and assess library programs to ensure support of curricular and research needs of Augusta University.

What does an Embedded Librarian do?

Here are some examples 

  • Meet with departmental faculty/staff on a regular basis
  • Serve on college/departmental committees (e.g., curriculum committees, faculty assemblies, etc.)
  • Hold office hours in the college 
  • Distribute information on new services and resources
  • Collect recommendations for new resources and services
  • Demonstrate library resources and services
  • Provide individual or group instruction on the use of library resources
  • Provide curriculum based guest lectures
  • Participate in morning report and rounding
  • Co-teach in online courses
Faculty Services Student Services
  • Work with faculty on grant funding opportunities
  • Assist with literature searching
  • Serve on systematic review groups
  • Assist with the publication process
  • Review search strategies
  • Review databases: Ovid Medline, CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, etc.
  • Assist with citation formatting and management
  • Consult on in-depth literature searches and reviews

Current Greenblatt Library open and chat hours are:

Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
