ENGL 1102 - Diehl: Find Books

The Nick Adams Stories

"The Nick Adams Stories" is one of the suggested books for your research paper assignment.

Google Books

Search for books that have been digitized by Google.  If the book is out of copyright, or the publisher has given permission, you'll be able to see a preview of the book, and in some cases the entire text. If it's in the public domain, you're free to download a PDF copy.

Library Catalog

When looking for books, government documents or videos held by Reese Library, you should use the online catalog. We have two versions of the online catalog available - GIL and GILFIND. GIL is the traditional, old style online catalog that has been around for a number of years. GILFIND is an overlay to the catalog that is more modern and includes various Web 2.0 features such as tagging, favorites, book covers and more.

What's the difference between GIL and GILFIND?

Search Tips

To identify books in Reese Library use GIL-Find.

    • When you open the catalog, use the drop-down menu to choose the 'subject' button, then enter the author's name last name, first name (as in Faulkner, William)  to find works about an author's life (biographies) or studies of his/her writings (criticism).
    • You may see more than one heading. A good one to look for is 'author's name--criticism and interpretation.' Click on the headings to see the books available under that heading.
    • You may also try a keyword search (click new search, then keyword and fill in the search boxes with your terms.) To get the most out of keyword searching, remember:
      • use one word or phrase per box to represent each concept you're searching.
      • Use the pull-down box to search two or more words as a phrase.
      • When you find results you like, click on the title, then look at the subject headings to find ‘more like this.’
      • Use * to truncate—example child* will pick up child, child’s, children.
  • When you find something you might want to use:
  • Pay attention to location, call number and status so you can find the item..
  • Electronic items have a link at the bottom of the record to access the content.

If you've found a book or book chapter reference in a database, Use GIL-Find to find out if AU has that book.
