Grants & Funding Support: Biosketches for NIH, NSF, and IES grants

This step-by-step guide will walk you though what you need to know, from logging into SciENcv and linking your ORCID profile to make it easier to populate your biosketch, through creating and exporting your biosketch.

Selecting ORCID or eRA Commons as the external source will help automatically populate your biosketch, saving you time from having to manually input information.

Sections of the NSF Biosketch:

Professional Preparation 

  • List degrees starting with baccalaureate and include postdoctoral training if applicable

Appointments

  • List previous positions in chronological order

Products

  • Such as publications, data sets, software, patents, and copyrights 
    • Include full citation information including names of all authors, date of publication or release, title, title of enclosing work such as journal or book, volume, issue, pages, website and Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or other Persistent Identifier

Synergistic Activities

  • List up to five distinct examples that demonstrate the broader impact of the individual's professional and scholarly activities that focus on the integration and transfer of knowledge as well as its creation
