Grants & Funding Support: Biosketches for NIH, NSF, and IES grants

This step-by-step guide will walk you though what you need to know, from logging into SciENcv and linking your ORCID profile to make it easier to populate your biosketch, through creating and exporting your biosketch.

Selecting ORCID or eRA Commons as the external source will help automatically populate your biosketch, saving you time from having to manually input information.

Sections of the NIH Biosketch:

Education/Training 

  • List degrees starting with baccalaureate and include postdoctoral training and residency training if applicable

Personal Statement

  • Briefly describe why you are well-suited for your role in the project described in this application
  • You may also identify up to four publications 

Positions, Scientific Appointments, and Honors

  • List previous positions in chronological order
  • Include other experiences and professional memberships  
  • List Board certifications or clinical licensure(s)

Contribution to Science

  • Briefly describe up to five of your most significant contributions to science
    • influence of the finding(s) on the progress of science 

    • your specific role in the described work

    • list up to four relevant publications 

  • Submit a hyperlink to your MyBibliography
