The following is a list of manuscript collections held by Reese Library Special Collections, which are related to the history of women in the South. These unpublished collections include many primary source materials. Primary sources are generally original documents created at the time being studied, whereas secondary sources (like books), were written later, and reflect upon a given time period or event.                                                                                                                                                                                              
 

 

MSS 053: Mary Lois Sibley Eve scrapbook, 1908-1924

This collection is comprised of a single volume scrapbook kept by Mary Lois Sibley Eve, and reflects her interests in: local art, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Confederate memorial efforts, and education.

 

MSS 086: United Daughters of the Confederacy records, 1897-1933

This collection includes materials related to the Augusta chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Collection materials include 16 scrapbooks, 2 packets of applications, 1 Souvenir program 1 UPC calendar, 13 Secretary's books, and 1 certificate.

 

MSS 089: Ladies Memorial Association records, 1872-1883, 1903-1924

This collection consists of records of Ladies Memorial Association (Augusta, GA), from 1872-1924 (with gaps). The records include constitutions, by-laws, membership rolls, lists of officers, financial accounts, lists of contributors to the fund, and minutes (1873-1883, 1903-1924). The minutes document the activities of the Association and contain information on election of officers, canvassing for donations, the erection of a Civil War monument, Decoration Day ceremonies, and cemetery beautification and care.

 

MSS 183: "Female Biography or, Memories of Illustrious and Celebrated Women", 1821

This collection is comprised of the single volume Female Biography or, Memories of Illustrious and Celebrated Women, given to Octavia Walton LeVert by her grandmother, Eliza Walker, in 1821.

 

MSS 230: Ruby M. McCrary Pfadenhauer papers, 1808-2002

This collection is comprised of correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings, publications and photographs. The collection includes both materials related to the life and genealogy of of Ruby Mabry McCrary Pfadenhauer, as well as historic records of the Augusta Arsenal from the 19th century through the mid 20th century.

 

MSS 270: League of Women Voters of Augusta records, 1940-1997
